The Princess of Wales's Annual Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The focus of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
